You can make it really small or put it on a second monitor but those are the only two options currently.

Do you want to hide the Event Library, or – a specific Event displayed in the Library?

Or hit cmd-shift-1
You can hide everything except the browser, viewer and timeline.

These all hide the Event Library. None of these hide the EVENT BROWSER. The point is to hide the Event Browser. Once you’re in final stages of finishing, color correction, and mixing, you don’t need the Event Browser and it’s just taking up a hunk of useless space in the single, one window that makes up the application.
Bottom line, there is no way to close or hide it or slide in into a drawer. There should be.

A ghetto workaround for maximizing your screen real estate during colour grading in FCPX 10.0.8 or less is to:
1. show your video scopes and timeline index.
2 Click and drag the FCPX window off the screen a little to the far right.
3. Now drag the left side of the FCPX window even farther left.
4. Shift the entire FCPX window back to the left effectively hiding the Event Browser and Timeline Index.Note: you should see a little bit of the Timeline Index on screen so you can drag clips around and have the timeline shift horizontally.
