Hide red out of sync indicators?
Posted by Eric Susch on May 23, 2008 at 9:27 pmIs there a way to hide the red out of sync indicators on the timeline? I thought there was but I can’t find any preference setting for it. Nothing in the manual either.

May 23, 2008 at 9:33 pmPut the cursor over the red sync indicator. Right-click or Control-click…choose SLIP INTO SYNC.

May 23, 2008 at 11:18 pmThanks Shane, but I don’t want to sync the auido. I just want to turn off the indicators so I can see the waveforms better in the timeline.

May 23, 2008 at 11:56 pmThis doesn’t really sync it. If you choose MOVE INTO SYNC, the audio will move back into sync…meaning if you are 10 frames off, it will move 10 frames, back into the original position on the original clip.
SLIP INTO SYNC basically is telling FCP that the current position is now the LOCKED position…here is where the audio is now in sync.
This is the ONLY way to remove those red sync indicators.

May 24, 2008 at 12:05 amI don’t think so Shane. Slip into sync will do a slip edit of the audio or video.
All the best,

May 24, 2008 at 12:11 amAww crap…you’re right Tom. Darn it…where was the option that made FCP think that this was NOW in sync? Am I crazy?
I might be.

June 4, 2008 at 10:38 amAlright I just cross-posted about this
I hope Apple reads these forums — those red sync things are starting to really annoy me

March 16, 2009 at 1:02 amDid you have any luck finding out anything about turning these off?
As pointed out above you can go Modify > Mark in Sync. But you have to do it one clip at a time, which can be very time consuming if your timeline looks like this.
Very annoying – especially because none of the clips are actually out of sync.

March 19, 2009 at 9:41 pmI never found a way to hide the red out of sync indicators. You should be able to, just like you can turn the waveforms on and off but I don’t think you can. There have been a few minor updates to FCP since I checked though. There’s a chance the programmers added it to one of the settings menus. Might be worth another look.
