    I’m a Video production teacher.

We recently bought the latest FCP suite academic.

Had FCP HD suite. Didn’t get a replacement disc in time to upgrade to universal 5.1. (all the originals were stolen/by the time I found the original order with PO #, it took too long for apple to send replacement disc).

Trying to set up the 4.5 suite on external HD as suggested in your first Cow Mag article.

    On that drive

    I have 10.3.9 installed.

I have the 4.5 FCPHD suite installed.

All apps will launch and I have serial numbers for software.

Trying to get Quicktime 6.5.2 installed.

Trashed everything called quicktime from that system.

When I run the quicktime 6.5.2 installer the drive has a red ! on it and it says I have an older version of quicktime in there so it won’t let me install.

I tried repairing permissions. Rebooting. No luck.

    Any suggestions?

The drive is attached to a G4 running 10.4.11 and quicktime 7.4.1. But I am booting from external drive.

We will need you to do a bit of clarifying for us.

[Craig Alan] “We recently bought the latest FCP suite academic. “

The latest FCP Suit is FCS 2 which includes FCP 6.

[Craig Alan] “Trying to set up the 4.5 suite on external HD”

So which version are you truing to use the old 4.5 or the new 6.

    [Craig Alan] “I have 10.3.9 installed. “

FCS2 and FCP6 requires at least OS 10.4.x

[Craig Alan] “When I run the quicktime 6.5.2 installer the drive has a red ! on it and it says I have an older version of quicktime in there so it won’t let me install. “

The new FCS also requires quicktime 7, which is one reason wit wont work with 10.3

Please clarify what version exactly you are trying to install.

    Hi Zane:

It’s the older production suite I’m having problems setting up. We have one license for it and one license for Final Cut suite 2. So I’m setting up one where I want OS X 10.3.9; the original suite with FCP HD 4.5 and the other apps and QuickTime 6.5.2.

What’s weird is if I run the latest QuickTime 7 installer it says the software has been successfully installed but it does not show up after the mandatory restart. FCP still launches and I don’t get an error message about QuickTime not being there. The 6.5.2 reinstall won’t work nor will the 6.5.2 installer.
