Posted by Ed Vandenderen on July 18, 2009 at 4:31 pmGentlemen
Just got a new hdr-hc9. Would like to use the hi def features.
Do I need to buy a some kind of “hi def” burner and special discs to burn to with vegas movie studio plat 9?
thanks

July 18, 2009 at 5:57 pmYou can burn Hi-def content in a DVD (or even CD, depending on file size) to view on a PC without problems… If you want Hi-def with BluRay standards you’ll need a BluRay burner, altough there are some tricky ways to “burn” some sort of “miniBluRay” on DVD media that can be readed even on BlyRay players …..
good luck

July 18, 2009 at 8:52 pmYou can prepare HD files (render) on Vegas to view on a PC system on several formats (WMV, mp4, HD-mpeg, etc.) that can also be burned to DVD or CD as I mentioned before, or prepare a BluRay that can be played on a PC-system through a BluRay drive OR on a HDTV through a BluRay player…. just check if the TV-BluRay player is capable of reading BD-R discs (the burned ones) … some players can even play HD BluRay content burned on normal DVD media… and another very good option for playing HD on TV (without BluRay) is the Western Digital media player (google for it)…
good luck

Do not confused the “media” with the “format”. You can burn a Blu-ray format to DVD media but it will no longer be DVD format. No, you cannot use Nero unless Nero will author a Blu-ray format to DVD from raw HD files. if you are using DVD Architect, then it can make a Blu-ray disc image (iso) for you to burn with Nero onto a standard DVD.
> That I do not need special discs or burner?
No, you don’t need a special disc or burner to burn Blu-ray format to DVD media. You will be limited by the capacity of the disc (4.7GB) and it will not play back on all Blu-ray players because the red-laser disc technology was never meant to deliver the 25Mbps bit rate of Blu-ray. You are much better off getting a Blu-ray burner and using Blu-ray discs.
> Do I need a special dvd deck to veiw them over tv?
Yes, because no “DVD” deck in the worlds can view them. You need a Blu-ray deck because you have formatted the media for Blu-ray. This is why I said don’t confuse the format with the media. What you will have is a Blu-ray disc in the end, even though it is physically on DVD media.

Sure, lots of ’em. Many people are starting to use media servers instead of shinny plastic discs. You can use a Playstation 3 to store and view your HD media. I bought a Western Digital WD TV Media Player and I love it. It plugs into your HD TV via HDMI cable and then you plug any USB hard drive into it with media and it plays the HD media on the disc. I picked up a couple of the Western Digital My Passport drives and they work great. The WD TV even comes with a holder for them.
I went through the pain of buying a media server and media player but it was a disaster! Apparently no company makes both and no two seem to talk to each other. Nothin’ but headaches and finger pointing. 🙁 The WD TV is just dead simple and it works.
