Help with workflow-Sony Vegas 8.0 to After Effects cs3
Dear vegas users,
Before i ask how its possible to find a solution for my workflow im going to state some issues. Basically what i want to do is edit in sony vegas 8.0 and color correct in after effects. I want to render out with the best uncompressed quality codec but Im having this problem with the uncompressed render in sony vegas which is rendering in another PAR.I tried to find solutions but havent found any.
I know there is a way to do it with saving the file to an aff file and import through after effects,which i have tried repeatly but it doesnt work.Is their any other way i can import my footage into after effects with the best quality and uncompressed render?

What format are you working in? SD? HD? What PAR problems are you having? Uncompressed is very hard to deal with. There are lossless codecs you could use but without knowing what format you are working in, it’s hard to say which to choose.

Personally for my DV workflow, when moving between
After Effects and Sony Vegas….I use Mainconcept DV Codec.
That way whenever i render out my footages from after
effects and drop them on the Vegas timeline there is
no recompression involved or Gamma shift issues.Steve Rhoden

Im working with SD dv from a dvx100b at 24p with 3-2 pulldown at a 4×3 aspect ratio.
the uncompressed issue is when i render out avi from vegas with no compression and the custom drop down for Par is put to 9.098, it renders out to a different Par which i think is square par 1.000. but when i render out to different avi codec such as dv compression it comes out just fine.
never had this issue before but now i cant figure it out.
Anyways, i will like to gain more knowledge on different work flows instead of rendering uncompressed from Vegas.to Steve Rhoden,
im sorry for the ignorance on codecs but is that codec comparable to the uncompressed avi in quality?

DV is a pretty hearty codec. I have rendered and re-rendered the DV codec from Vegas multiple times without any noticeable loss in quality. Theoretically it is not going to be as good as uncompressed because it uses “lossy” compression at about 5:1 (which is very light when compared to formats like MPEG2 which is 25:1) but you would be hard pressed to notice the difference with just one generation from Vegas to After Effects and back. There are lossless codecs like HuffYUV and Lagarith that you could use which produce much smaller files than uncompressed at the same quality because they guarantee that what you put in is what you get out.
Personally, I would just stick with using DV unless you start seeing compression artifacts that you don’t like and then I’d switch to a lossless codec.

and if I hadn’t done much work in the way of cropping / track motion / effects, I’d simply save the file as AAF, and open that in AE. No rendering, no recompression, no time spent, no nothing

i have tried to save to an aff file but my after effects cs3 always crashes when importing.i thought it was because i was using vista but its the same thing when i try in xp.i have tried frameserving also with no luck, it imports the file to after effects but no video is shown.
it possible to frame serve from sony 8.0 vegas to premiere pro,so i can just bridge it to after effects since they are so tightly integrated.
