  • Help with the Emerge Text Preset

Posted by Jake Smith on March 30, 2006 at 12:40 am

OK, So I was checking out the new presets inside of AE7 and I tried most of the text presets and all of them worked great! The one that I couldnt get to work is “Emerge.ffx”. It is in Presets > Text > Lights and Optical.

It adds in keyframes, but does not do anything to the text to show the example they show.

Side Question: I was also wondering if you can make your own text presets? Or is there a site with other ones?

    Thanks for your help!

For the Emerge Text preset to work you need to give the text a stroke and no fill.
You can make your own text presets. Just set up your keyframes, select the text layer and choose ANIMATION > SAVE ANIMATION PRESET. I keep an alias of my personal preset library inside the Presets folder located in the AE application folder. That way I can easily back up the original folder easily.

Thanks for the reply, but the example that is shown in the browse presets window has the text appearing and it is fulling filled in, no strokes. Am in missing a step from what you stated?

I created a text layer, Typed in text, Added a Stroke in the Character Pallet, and Applied the Emerge preset.
–All that does is makes the preset stroke go away.

Please help me out again. Thanks!

Yes, I see what you mean. I’ve had a look at it and haven’t been able to work it out yet. It may be something I need to report to Adobe.

On a black background, set the stroke black and fill it with white; it works.

To get Emerge working, after applying the preset, go to your Text properties, then go to your Animator properties, ADD a Stroke Opacity of 100% and a Stroke Color of your choice. Once that is completed that should allow emerge to work like it should.
