I am new to Creative Cow, new to Premiere CS3, new to Hd, new to P2, new to my HVX200 …

The two main problems right now:

    1. Can’t to get P2 material onto my PC and into Premiere.
(downloaded the P2 card manager and the P2 viewer but when I plug the camera in via 1394 or usb, nothing happens.)

When I open Premiere, I can’t even start an HDV project, the file folder is empty of presets.

What don’t I know or more likely – what do I need to buy now!

If you are on a PC, you have to use USB to transfer files.

Make sure menu (9) PC Mode is set to USB.

Hit the button at the back of the camera, that will take you to the playback/thumbnail sreen (green LED). Then hold it again for a few second, that will change the camera to transfer mode (Orange LED).

That should create a removable drive on the PC and you can copy the content folder from there.

Then go to the video folder and drag all the clips to Premiere.

You made tha easy! Thank you so much.

Would you know if I could get a pcmcia card installed on my system that could read P2 cards, so I could import footage without having to tie up the camera?

As fas as I’ve seen, all PCMCIA to PCI cards will read P2 cards.

Google PCMCIA to PCI and pick your favorite one. Make sure they have a return policy just in case. Pop it on the motherboard and you should be good to go.

BTW, most other adapters (such as USB or firewire to PCMCIA) won’t usually work with P2.

And for laptops with express card slots, you will need the “Duel adapter”.
