I bought an video image from istock video. It’s a white door on a gray background that zooms forward and eventually zooms into the keyhole in the door. My problem is that it’s imported as a quicktime file and I’d like to remove all the gray around the door so I can have this door zoom forward to through the key hole with a black background.

What’s the best way of accomplishing this? Is there a key I can use? A filter? Do I need to crop out the gray and build keyframes? What’s the best method and how would I do this? Thanks

I find rotoscoping that sort of thing in Motion works best. Use the mask tool and animate it. Since the door has straight lines it should be an easy one.

You can key the gray directly in final cut, using a chroma key filter. You might experience problems if the same gray is present in other elements of the scene…
