I need some help! Here is my situation: I awaiting shipment of a Mac Pro (9GB ram which may be a problem) with BM Multibridge Extreme. What would be the ideal situation for a client Monitor? I have a Sony PVM-20M4U with no SDI input. What would be my ideal set up? I was orginally going to get a Plasma or LCD 42″ connect the Muultibridge extreme to HDMI and also running a componet feed to the PVM (unless you think I should uprgrade my pvm to add sdi?). What do you think would be the best set-up for me? Currently I am still doing a lot of SD work but I would like to be ready for HD when needed. If you can give me some recommdations on to what you would do? i was even thinking of selling my PVM and just using a plasma or LCD. Thanks for all you help!

    Hi
You dont need sdi for your pvm to work wuth the multibridge! Multibridge can handle s-video, coponent video and composite video…..Besides the sdi monitor card for the pvm would probably cost just as much as a 24″dell lcd. The pvm will looks best for standard def.

    Hi,

Just use the Multibridge Extreme to provide component video to the PVM monitor. The SDI board for your monitor is simply an SDI to analog convertor (as all CRT monitors are analog) and Multibridge Extreme already provides that functionality. The quality of the conversion with Multibridge Extreme is surpasses most SDI to analog boards as it uses 14 bit digital to analog conversion for component video.

Many “SDI monitors” will not automatically switch video formats when you change between NTSC and PAL and also different HD formats. However if you connect to the component inputs of these same monitors, they will automatically detect a change in video formats and accept the new signal. So it makes a lot of sense to let Multibridge Extreme provide the component analog signal to your PVM monitor as the quality will be excellent, it will save you money and the monitor will auto-detect any change in video formats 🙂
