Help with HD editing decision
So, I’m thinking of buying the Canon Vixia HF200 video HD camera.
I am worried about editing the AVCHDfiles after transferring them to my 2 year old computer running VISTA.So, I have looked into it and see that I can convert them to AVI files using something like the AVS video converter. (or a similar program)
Is this a good idea?
What would I be missing?The options seem to be to buy a bigger computer and perhaps update my software (using Premiere CS3 now) and a new learning curve.
Opinions anyone?

It depends on how good the computer was 2 years ago. They made anything from a Pentium 4 to a core 2 quad.

Sure, sorry, you are right of course.
It is a laptop: Toshiba satellite with about 2.5 gz speed and 2 gig of Ram but it’s using VISTA.I am thinking i’ll have to just convert everything to avi and then work with it like that until i can afford a monster computer.
But any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated.

My guess is you will probably be pulling your hair on that computer.
Honestly I would convert to SD , then replace the files and bring them in a new HD project for export.
I don’t think you will ever get realtime preview otherwise, that’s if you can avoid the system crashing all together. I would also highly recommend downgrading to XP on that laptop; you are eating 1/2 your resources if not more with Vista alone.
