    Hi Guys,

On August 13th I am shooting a TV pilot, sort of like a Soul Train/American Band Stand theme for a Latin audience; and I would like to shop it around to the big TV networks… The thing is, I need the best possible high end HD look, without breaking my bank. I was thinking of renting the Panasonic HVX200 or the Sony HDR-FX1, but I have never used HD before and don’t know how to work with the P2 card and my Vegas system.
And if anyone knows a good rental shop in New York City where I can get a good deal, please let me know.

    Thanks so much,
    Evelyn

Abel Cine has all the above—You would be better off shooting it with a Z1U—and using the Cineform product to edit with. Vegas doesn’t support P2.

Thanks for the response… But any particular reason for Z1U suggestion over the HVX. Is it just the fact that I can’t use a memory card? What if I used a DV tape instead? Don’t get me wrong I would prefer to go with the Z1U, it’s more affordable, but would like to know if using a mini dv tape you would still choose the Z1U over the HVX’s picture quality.

    Thanks,
    Evelyn

If your shooting a documentary, and you dont have loads of memory cards, and a place to dump their contents, you will have a problem. The HVX doesn’t record either DVPRO/50 Or HD directly to tape—only standard DV. The Z1U, gives you excellent quality HDV, shooting directly to tape.
