  • Help with HD 16:9 footage into an SD system

We have not changed over to HD yet. Still have Uncompressed SD set up with
DigiBeta etc. Aurora Pipe Studio with SDI in/out and analog monitoring.

    Client is shooting with HDX900, 720p 30. I’m renting a Panny 1400 deck and
downconverting to SD to input to FCP. While doing that, I’m assuming (here’s
where I usually get into trouble) I have to choose between letterboxing the
footage or center cropping the footage while doing the downconvert.
This means I would work with the HD to SD downconverted clips in a normal
SD sequence and monitor the same way I do now.
    Yes or no so far?

Or, does the 1400 deck and FCP allow me to downconvert the HD to SD
BUT KEEP the anamorphic picture (now at SD) and then put THAT in a
    16:9 SD sequence?

the 1400 deck will allow you to do any of 3 things on down converts over SDI

    the menu is 620

    0000 is center cut
    0001 is letterbox
    0002 anamorphic squeeze.
