  • Help with exporting to AE then back to PP Please.

    Hello,
I’m having a hell of a time getting the correct Aspect Ratio. Here’s what’s going on.

I shot at 720/24P in Adobe On Location. Imported into Premiere Pro CS4 and cut it down to 7 minutes.

I then tried exporting it as an AVI file and imported into After Effects. Did a few simple titles and then rendered the file. When I import it back into Premiere Pro to encode it as an H.264 file, the aspect raio is not full screen.

Rather it looks like a 4:3 with black bars on both sides. I’ve tried several ways to export this file into AE but so far nothing has worked.

Can someone please explain what I’m doing wrong and how to fix this?
(How do I export the original file in P.P. into AE, add titles then export back into P.P. for the final encoding?)

    Thanks very much.

    Hmmm. Pillar-boxed video.

You said ‘exporting it as an AVI’. For additional processing you should Export/Movie AVI Uncompressed, from Premiere.

For your titles, could you only use the source video as a temp file. Than, export only the new titles with a Straight-Unmatted Alpha.

I assume all looks fine in Premiere’s monitor, regarding aspect ratio?

I’m thinking either your project settings or your encoding settings don’t match your source material. You’d have to double-check your specs.
It might be worth trying to import your project file into a new project that uses a Project Preset.

Wait… The pillar box is in AE. Forget everything I just said. lol 🙂
If you are decompressing your video to Uncompressed, for AE, I think the file loses it’s aspect ratio flag. AE will guess an aspect ratio if no flag is present.
In AE, try to Right-Click on the clip in the bin and Interpret As, and choose the correct aspect ratio.

    Just a couple of ideas
