I have DVDA versions 1 and 4. v1 seems to be easier to use, but I know very little about either. I have been trying to create a dvd that opens to a main screen that contains two videos. I want buttons to start playing the first video in its entirety, and another button which will play only a portion of that video. The same set up for the second video. You can either play the entire thing or play a certain portion of it. This is for demonstration videos that sometimes you will want to see the entire video, at other times you may only want to watch the last part of it. And I want to be able to do that without going to additional screens from the startup screen. This should be possible but the only way I can figure is to put the entire first video on the startup screen, twice, and on the second version set in and out points. That seems like a lot of extra space to have to use on the dvd. Does this make sense? Step by step please. Thanks in advance.

Sorry but 2 additional screens are the only way that I know of doing this the way that you want.
THe main menu would have to link to a submenu page for each video.
The submenu pages would each have a “Play All” button as well as buttons for the individual chapters.
Despite the fact that you’ll have to drag multiple copies of each video to the screen, the file size won’t increase as it’s the same video each time and you’re only using it to create In & Out points for your chapters.
Just make sure that the total size of both videos doesn’t exceed 4.3 GB. and you’ll be fine.

If it doesn’t matter how many times I drag the same movie to the screen, how about if I drag the first movie to the opening screen twice, and on the second copy set a start point towards the end of the movie so when they click on that version it only plays a segment of the video? And do the same for the second video. Would that work?

    Yes it would.
Double-click the 2nd instance of the first or 2nd movie and use the I (for In) and O (for Out) keys to set the in & out points for the specific segment you want to have play.

Depending on how many chapters you end up with, you might want to consider changing the buttons to “Text Only” mode.
Remember to rename them accordingly as well.
When you get to the end of any clip, it should automatically return to the main screen but check the “End Actions” of each one to make sure that it’s set properly.

For the record, I believe that this behavior (where DVDA would allow you to add the same file multiple times without needing more disc space) was added in DVDA 2.0, so I don’t think you’ll be able to do this with DVDA 1.0.

Thanks for the potential “danger” warning Rob.
I’m on DVDA 5 so I never would’ve even thought about that.
