    Hello guys,

I’m creating some effects for some still pictures in a video and I hope some of you might have some help and ideas.

Here’s what I had in mind:

    1. Starting with a black and white image and making it appear that you are tilting it to the left and right to approximate a reflection you might see on the glass part of a frame.

    2. Ways of getting appearance of depth without cutting out the elements.

    3. Some of the pieces are Deguerrotypes. Anyone know how to approximate a Deguerrotype effect?

    Thanks for your time!

    For #1 you can:

Make the layer 3D and rotate it.

    or

Use Distort>Corner Pin and animate the corners.

    For #2:

Deguerrotypes are old photos on metal.?. Just play with your setting on the 3D layer. Pay particular attention to the “metal” setting. This will change the softness of the specular highlight. I don’t think an old Deguerrotype would have much shine to it. Also add some sepia tone to the color if it is not already present.

What exactly will be reflected in the glass? If it’s just light you could just make the layers 3D and add some spotlights. If it’s some object you might want to look at Andrew Kramer’s tut on “creating 3D reflections.”
