I just want to run PP 1.0 and AE 5.5 here at home, but my 2GHz Emachine has integrated video and no AGP slot. So I have been looking at motherboards, CPUs, memory and dualhead video cards. I hadn’t been paying much attention to Intel or AMD’s rollouts of new processors in past years and now I’m confused and have a few simple questions.

1-Is a Celeron D part of the P4 class and how will it perform compared to a true P4?
2-Is there a good sub $100 MB that anyone has experience with? I have been looking at some of the Asus boards.
3-How important is FSB speed for rendering? How about hyperthreading?

I think I can build a little dedicated system up for not much $$ since I have the drives and monitors. I know it won’t be as fast as our Matrox systems at work (dual 3Gig Zeons with 2G of RAM), but I just want to rough things in and build some basic titles here at home. Do I stand a chance of getting this done for around $400?

    Thanks,

    Tom S.

Before I give any reccomendations, what exactly do you plan on doing? Premiere Pro does not utilize the graphics card, but AE 5.5 might. If you are editing only DV clips without color correction or effects, the computer you are using might last you another year and then you can get a full update. Also, if you can list your hardware specs we can help you out with compatibility issues (motherboard, chipset etc…)
