  • help with changing scale of bulge effect?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could please please help, I am quite new to after effects and have been struggling with this problem for a while…

basically I am trying to create bubbles as part of an animation that need to start off small coming out of the sea and get larger as they move forward. I want to use the bulge effect on the bubbles to give the impression that the background behind is distorted through them. I have done this by creating an adjustment layer underneath the bubble but ontop of the background layer, adding the bulge effect to that layer then using the pick wip to link the centre of the bubble to the centre of the bulge effect so that they both move together, which works great.

The only problem is getting the bubble to change size in conjunction with the bulge effect. The closest I have come is to link the horizontal and vertical radius of the bulge to the transform scale of the bubble using the pick wip. This almost works and it changes the size of the bulge when the bubble size changes but the bulge radius always goes a lot smaller than the bubble.

This question is getting quite long but please read on… I think the reason for this is that when you first create the bulge it is quite small, so when I scale it up to cover the bubble it is something like 200% size while the bubble is the size it was brought in at i.e.100%. As soon as I link the scale of the bubble and the bulge it sets both values to 100% so the bulge ends up going back to its origional size.

If anyone has any clue what I am doing wrong or if there is an easier way to do this it would be amazing!
