  • Help with camera along path… Can’t get it even after reading past posts…

I have a 4000 X 4000 pixel psd file with 40 pictures placed in it. I want to pan across this psd file in AE. I know this is simple, but I’m trying to use a path for the first time in order to figure it out once and for all. I imported the psd file into AI and drew out a path. This is where I get lost. When I paste the path into AE I’m not understanding the results at all. I’ve tried auto orienting a camera, pasting the path to the position prop’s, using null layers and adjusting the psd file’s rotation with the null parented to the psd file. I just don’t get it. I’m sure that this is very simple, but I can’t figure it out. I’ve also downloaded the animating cam tutorial, but for some reason I’m getting an error with my QT codec when trying to view the video (another issue, I know).

If anyone can take a couple minutes to give me a breakdown on how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much.

You’ve typed quite a bit of info but unfortunately you’ve not described your problem. You’ll get more precise solution(s) if you describe the problem, as well as your workflow and what it is that you’re doing.

As a starter, I suggest that you set the camera to a single point camera. That means switching of its point of interest. It’ll be a lot easier to control the camera.

Yep … in other words, what is your desired result, and what is the actual result?

To paraphrase Roland, select the camera layer and layer>transform>auto-orient>off. Then animate the camera’s position.
