Help with Apple Codec – HDV1080i60
I edited an HDV project on my computer using the Apple Intermediate Codec as the Compressor setting and the Capture preset. I gave it to my client, who keeps getting an error message when they try to open the project: “Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.”
What do we need to do so that they can open the project? We looked for the Apple Intermediate Codec and it was not one of the options in their FCP, although they are using 5.1.4 FCP.

Hi Connie,
Some codecs gets installed with FC (i.e Proress or XDCAM) while some others comes packaged with QT.
I can not remember in the case of the Apple Intermediate. Your customer may needs a QT update. You may get the correct info in the QT Release Notes.
Anyway you better look for other solution. The AIC was a temporary solution for working with HDV when this format was still quite new. i think that now is not much used.

Their system was not properly installed. The Apple Intermediate Codec has been available on all Macs for a number of years. It comes with iMovie and with Final Cut. Are you sure the file you exported is in AIC? Did you check it in the QuickTime player?

Thanks for your reply – I had read somewhere else that their FCP might not be installed correctly. I am not sure – I do know they recently had to update it from 5.1 to 5.1.4.
The client said they called Apple FCP Help and Apple advised them as follows: I should open the project on my computer (the computer on which the project originated), change the QT Compressor setting from AIC to HDV 1080i60, and that should then allow the client to open the project on their system. Can the solution be so simple?! I have a hard time believing that this will help, given that the project is finished, but I am (obviously) not the most tech saavy person in the world.
On a related issue:
should I not be using AIC?
In the future, should I use this HDV 1080i60 setting for the QT Compressor setting when editing HDV projects?Thanks,

If you still have the project in FC, you may better change the sequence codec and re-export as HDV.
As I commented AIC was a temporary solution for capturing and editing HDV.
Now makes no much sense to use it. You better capture, edit and export on HDV.
