Help!! Whats the trick to encoding a wma or aac 5.1 audio track?
I have sucessfully encoded (and played back) a Dolby Digital 5.1 channel directional mix created by using the 5.1 surround panner in Vegas 6.0d. This was mastered to a DVD using DVDA.
The panning automation was applied to the encoded 5.1 ac3 track, and during playback the desired panning is reproduced perfectly.
But, attemping to encode the same project in WMV/WMA or MPEG2/AAC results in loss or misdirection of all the panning information.
Am I missing something, or does the surround panner only work in Dolby Digital ac-3 encoded projects? Or do I need to render to 6 wave files and then use the wave files in the project to supply the 6 channels for the WMV/WMA or MP2/AAC mix?
Alternately, I would be happy with using an AC-3 track with a WMV, MPEG2, or MPEG4 video stream. However I can’t uncover any way to do that.
BTW, the reason I want to use WMV or MPEG2 (or MPEG4) is because the video is 1280×720 HD, and the DVD at 720 x 480 obviously doesn’t deliver the original source video quality.

Can I assume that you’ve set the WMA Audio Attributes to one of the 5.1 choices?

Apparently the WMA channel mapping is messed up on my NLE system. Using the test WMA file supplied by MS, the center comes from the right suuround and the left surround comes from the subwoofer channel. Another system I have is correct.

Yes. It apparently is being encoded correctly, but playing back the file on the nle system shows the channel mappings on the system are incorrect, or at least not consistent with vegas.
I have a lynx2 audio card connected via analog out to a Yamaha 6 channel amp.
