  • Help! Uninstalled Aspect HD trial and lost all Cineform codecs!

Posted by Tim Veal on February 15, 2006 at 4:53 pm

My trial of Aspect HD ended so I uninstalled it. Now I’ve lost the cineform codecs that came with Premiere and Vegas. None of my programs show it as an export option. When I try to work with the files I get no compressor found errors. I can’t finish my project until I get the codecs back. I’ve already uninstalled Premiere, then installed Premiere Pro, then the 1.5.1 update with no luck. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have also had trouble with uninstalling the Aspect HD software. It seems you must use the Cineform uninstaller, otherwise it leaves rogue files around. Installing Premiere 1.51 upgrade should give you the codecs. If you still have a problem, you could re-install Aspect HD (ignoring the notes about ‘key expired’) then uninstall it again. This time choose the option to ‘keep cineform codecs for compatability’ (or wording to that effect.)

The problem is resolved now, but I had to search for and delete a cinehd.dll file, uninstall Premiere, Aspect HD, and Vegas, then reinstall Vegas, Premiere 1.5, then update to Premiere 1.5.1. A lot of trouble to try out someone’s software. This doesn’t seem to be an isolated case, so I would hope that in the future Cineform at least warns the user before installing their trial software.

Yes – it seems there is also a ‘CDHD.dll’ file which can get left behind and causes havoc when you uninstall.
