  • HELP! Trouble Capturing from DVC Pro50 to FCP

Posted by Liz Norris on February 7, 2008 at 11:18 pm

    Hi,

I’m having a capture issue and have just about exhausted all my obvious troubleshooting ideas. Currently using the Panasonic AJ 1400 DVCPro HD deck to capture DVC Pro 50 material. The tapes are old but say 24.98 fps – not even sureif this is possible on DVC Pro 50? Have tried choosing every DV 50 and/or DVCPro HD Capture setting within FCP…have also gone back and forth between the various system frequency settings on the Panasonic (assuming it should be 59.94 but this one did not work). Firewire is working b/c I can use the log and capture window to engage the deck, but get no picture….any would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

[Liz Norris] “The tapes are old but say 24.98 fps”

You mean someone wrote this on the tape? If these are DVCPro 50 tapes, then the real frame rate is 29.97, and there’s some sort of pulldown, either 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2. 23.98 does not exist as a standard def tape speed. (I’m going to assume that “24.98” was just a typo).

Thanks Arnie! You are correct about the typo. And yes, all the tapes were labeled “23.98”…threw me for a loop this afternoon, but ended up switching my HD DVC Pro deck for a DVCPro 50 deck thanks to a generous rental co! Thanks for your advice!

All the DVCPro formats play on the 1400 deck if you are using firewire the DIF menus up in the 800 numbers were possibly set to up-convert to HD.
