  • Help! suddenly No Audio on Previews

Ok, so here’s the issue. Up until this morning I could preview my audio in AE without any problems. But now I get no sound when I try. I can see the audio levels dancing up and down in the Audio tab, but there’s no sound. However, if I double-click the asset in the Project Window/Asset Library I can hear it just fine. Also it exports with audio just fine.

I just re-installed AE (version 6.5) to try to resolve what I thought might be a preference issue. But still no success, same problem.

Just to be clear I am attempting to Preview the audio as I edit, normally I do so by pressing “.” on the numeric keyboard or by Ram Previewing–neither is working now. (I have already made sure that the Composition>Preview>Audio is turned on; and there don’t appear to be any irregularities in the After Effects preferences.)

HAas anyone encountered this problem? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks CC team

I don’t have any good news for you here. Mine just started doing the exact same thing today. I am using a Mp3 but I also converted it to a Wav just to be sure. So it still works when I double click it inside the project properties tab, but on the time line the audio levels move but no audio. So here is a bump for the thread because this is driving me nuts.

    Mac Pro
    AE version 7.0.1
    2x3ghz intel
    5 gb ram

So let’s see what you guys have in common:

    QT version?
    OS version?
    AE version?
    Misbehaving audio format?

    QT 7.2 Pro
    OS 10.4.1
    AE 7
Quicktime audio working, as well as MP3 so far, haven’t tried other projects yet

Same issues as the others though,

Audio plays when you double click on it in the projects folder
RAM Preview and Audio Preview have none
    Scrubbing plays nothing

everything is turned on as it has been for the countless other projects i’ve done, but now it just doesnt work

Any help or advice would be greatly appreaciated.

Hm. Not rubbing it in, but mine works. Maybe it would help to post the specs of systems where the comp can preview audio. Here’s mine:

    QT 7.1.3
    OS 10.4.10
    AE 7.0
    MacBook Pro
    Files: MOV H.264, 16/44, AIFF 16/44
Ability in comp: scrub (cmd key down), RAM preview, “.” preview

Mine has no ability in the comp what so ever.

    OS 10.4.10
    AE 7.0.1.13
Mac Pro 2×3 ghz quad core

Audio works when it is double clicked in the project pane but when I do a ram preview it doesn’t work.

The company i work for has 2 versions of AE 7, i tried installing the 2 different ones and it still didn’t work. I was forced to download the CS3 Trial version before it would start working. I don’t want to have to buy that yet so i’m hoping there’s a way to get around this problem.
