  • Help! Still looking for a “DVE” plug in

    Posted by Richard Scott on September 1, 2005 at 9:41 pm

    The scaling, rotation and translation native in FCP’s “motion tab” aren’t doing it for me (and our clients), the image quality and filtering make almost unusable. I am looking for a plug in that might help. Any suggestions?

    I have tried Boris’s BCC set of tools. The two DVEs in there look good, the only problem is that I can’t get a bezier curve on the motion path, it seems to only want to be linear.

    GenArts has the Warp translation (or something like that) it is cool but it doesn’t allow for x or y rotation.

    I am willing to purchase a package to get what we need but the only thing that we really need is high quality scaling, translation and x,y and z rotation.

    We have other programs for image manipulation (After Effects and the like) but I am looking for something for use when a quick logo, image or text repositioning is needed.

    Thanks in advance.

    Are you using FCP 5? It adds an improved scaling engine. You select the quality in the sequence settings.

    I told you about CGM on your last post.
    Not like them? I think they are very good.

    Absolutely right, for me it’s very good How about Motion? It’s not a plugin, but it does a good roundtrip!

    I went to the web site and liked what I saw but they didn’t have a plug-in listed to do what I need to do. I am looking for a substitution for the motion tab. basically scaling, translation and rotation on the x,y and z axis.

    If CGM has a plug in for that I couldn’t find it.

    I tried the new version of motion and still the filtering isn’t sufficient. So far, Boris looks the best but I can’t use it if wont do a bezier curve on the translation, it may be able to do it but I can’t get it to work. I called up Boris and nobody there could answer my question. I posted a question on the Creative Cow Boris forum and no one answered me there either.

    They have two, one for transitions
    CGM Zoom/Rotate 3D:
    javascript:openWindow(‘../movies/movies_dve2/zoomrotate.html’,’ZoomRotate3D’);javascript:openWindow(‘../movies/movies_dve2/zoomrotate.html’,’ZoomRotate3D’);

    and one as a filter
    CGM Basic 3D:
    javascript:openWindow(‘../movies/movies_dve2/basic3d.html’,’Basic3D’);

    All of these filters are very customizable. All the controls
    come up in the filters box in the canvas and you can
    change anything you want basically.
    I don’t work for them, it’s just that this guy’s software
    has saved me a lot of setup time for 3d effects.
    And there are quite a few of us FCP users who think
    CGM stuff is good. I’m surprised more of the people
    on this forum aren’t agreeing with me.
    Could be the $300 it costs. Perhaps that’s too steep for some.
    But you get quite a few filters and effects, both
    2d and 3d and color effects etc.
    He has a demo that just puts a name over stuff I think.
    You can see how the plugins work for real I believe.
    I have forgotten how that works because I’ve owned them
    for a while.

    I guess you have to go to the main URL below and scroll down
    to get the mpeg 4 movies I posted links to.
