  • Help setting memory for a x64bit OS.

    Hi Guys,

I recently upgraded to Windows XP Pro x64bit. I noticed that when AE CS3 boots up, it’s still only using 2Gbs of memory.

I read on a GridIron forum that: “Although After Effects is a 32-bit application and is limited to the amount of memory that it can access (2 GB on 32-bit Windows, 3 GB on Mac OS X and 4 GB on 64-bit Windows)”…

Can someone please tell me how to get AE to see 4GB of memory?
I have Nucleo Pro 2 installed but there are times when I really don’t need to use it (for short renders). I would like to have AE use the 4GB availble on my x64bit machine.

    Thanks very much.

    Regards.

you do know that you can get after efftecs to use all 16GB of your RAM by enabling multiprocessing dont you? If not then you can set after effects to use a certain amount of RAM per core (usually 2GB per core i think) and it will render multiple frames simultaneously.

    Pat,

Thanks for taking time to reply. Yeah, I’m hip to the Mulitprocessor in AE. I have Nucleo Pro 2, therefore I’m not
engaging this feature at the moment.

    Best.

you can get AE to see and use 16GB RAM? Please do tell? I thought it was still a 32 bit application.

    Thanks

    Don,

Under preferences, multiprocessing tab, give you a description about
this. I have Nucleo Pro 2 installed. This runs as a plugin inside
After Effects. I utilized all of your CPU and RAM. It’s not cheap but
if you’re a power user, you may want to check it out.

I’m not sure exactly if AE utilizes all the systems resources like NP2 does. But I have Dual Quad Core Zeon 3Gb Processors and 16GB of Ram installed. NP2 uses all of it.

    Hope this helps.
