  • Help Please, Can’t Gets Lights to Work

    Posted by Beuwulf on June 11, 2007 at 6:41 pm

    I’ve searched the forum and found similar problems but not quite what is happening to me.

    Here is what I am doing;

    First, I crate a new comp, bring in a photoshop file and place it in the background. I then click on the 3d box and highlight the correspond 3d box above the time line. I then open up a camera using the 35mm preset. Then I create a light. The default is usually a spot light with the intensity at 120, the cone angle at 90 and the cone feather at 50. The casts shadows button is unchecked (I’ve done this with it checked also) and the rest of the parameters are grayed out.

    When I click the ok button I see the wire frame of the light but there is no lighting effect. I am looking at it through the “Camera 1” view. When I view it through the “top” and “Left/Right” views I can clearly see the light is centered and the poi is in front of the 3d background.

    I also checked the “Materials Options” and accepts lights and shadows are on, with casts shadows turned off (as before I have done this with cast shadows turned on).

    Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here. I am pretty sure this is something that I am doing wrong, since I have tried this with 2 different computers at work with the same results but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Any help in this would be gratefully appreciated, Thanks.

    I am using AE 7.01, AMD 62 4200 Dual Core Processor, 3 Gigs of Ram, and a NVIDIA Geforce 7950GT with 512megs.

    [Beuwulf] “I then click on the 3d box and highlight the correspond 3d box above the time line.”

    The ‘3D Box’ above the timeline is called ‘Draft 3D’ mode and disables lights and Depth of Field.

    Disable ‘Draft 3D’ and you should be fine.

    And right you are! I clicked that that button off and viola! I feel jubilant, I feel ecstatic, I feel… well stupid. Thank you for the help, I can’t tell you how crazy it was making me!
