I know this is a little off topic but I’m going overseas in 2 days and want to buy a small camcorder today. I’m leaning towards the Sony DVD403, the reviews seem good, but I just wonder if bumps and bounces might cause disk write errors when shooting. I can live with that to a degree but I’m be in some rough places and wouldn’t want it to be a big, constant problem. I’m in a big rush, any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

IMHO DVD camcorders are prone to being a silly idea.

    Get a DV camcorder.

I have heard from some that the mini DVD that comes out of the camera is not universally compatible with DVD players.

Mike, thanks for your reply. A good friend who’s extremely knowledgable expressed a similar opinion. Still, reckless and stubborn guy that I am, I went ahead and ordered a Sony DVD403. The reviews were excellent and I like the ability to edit within the deck. Even though I didn’t take your advice, I really appreciate your response! After I get home next month, I’ll post my own review here.
