  • Help needed please: with edge blending in AE

Earlier I asked if there was a plugin for AE that worked like Matte Feather from Commotion.
    Here is a better question I think…
I’m use to using Matte Feather and Light Wrap in Commotion to subtlety blend the edges of a composited foreground into the background.
I’d like to work in the same manner in AE by finding standalone feather and light wrap style plugins for AE.

Can anyone recommend a method using AEs default plugins, or by using third party plugins, that would allow me to do edge blending in the same way in AE?

Keylight is cool, but I don’t believe I can use it just for its edge blending abilities by themselves right?

    Hi,

    Plug-in solution:
    https://www.digitalfilmtools.com/cs-3/cs.htm

    AE solution:
Matte Choker would definately be usefull as a feather as well as the Channel Blur.

    Hope this may help.
    Salut

I have been using the image lounge and composite wizard stuff for years and it can really work wonders. Red Giant has picked it up and you can find it at

Hope this helps. There are also some methods to outlines and use track mattes if you want to do it the manual way. I could detail some methods if that is your preferred method.

    Hi David (and thanks Serge),
I’d really like it if you could detail the manual method. For a while I’m going to be on a tight budget and I have a long project that is going to be a pain to go back and forth between commotion and AE. I imagine a manual method might offers some control I might not find in some plugins.
    Thanks if you can!
