Help! Need to capture compressed from HD-SDI w/ Decklink HD
Please help!! I need to get filming in the next couple days somehow. I have a hdr-fx1 which im outputting through the component analog output and
into an aja hd10a which outputs hd-sdi into the decklink hd. The decklink hd is
in a dual G5 with OSX 10.3.9 and FCP HD 4.5.
I want to do chromakey work, but I do not have a raid setup for uncompressed
video, so I need to capture directly to dvcprohd. I have read on many websites
that it is possible to record to dvcprohd from the decklink hd sdi connection,
but I have not been able to get this to work yet.When I called blackmagic design, they told me that it not possible at all, and
that my only option is to get a raid setup and record uncompressed video. They
also told me that to record anything i need to upgrade to the newest OSX and
final cut, which I am prepared to do, but I would really like to avoid the raid
setup and recording uncompressed hd. Anything you can tell me to shed some
light on this would be greatly appreciated, as we’re already behind schedule and
I seem to be stuck.Thanks

Hi,
You can certainly capture to DVCPRO HD on your G5 from a HD-SDI source.

Just choose the appropriate easy setup in Final Cut Pro HD. For example, “Blackmagic HDTV 1080psf 23.98 – DVCPRO HD”
