Help! Need 5.1.4 I just bought Magic Bullet Looks
Posted by Brian Burke on February 8, 2008 at 8:40 amI just bought Magic Bullet Looks and come to find out that it only works with FCP 5.1.4 and above! I have 5.0 which means the $400 I spent on the plug-in could be a waste. Can you help me Alexander? Anyone? Thank you so much!

February 8, 2008 at 10:57 amFirst off, the minimum specs are clearly labeled on the product so there’s no reason you should have missed that.
Second, 5.1.4 is a paid upgrade requiring a DVD purchase and swap out of your 5.0 discs for the 5.1.4 discs.
Third, Looks is a bit disappointing in our testing here. There’s no realtime updates to the external monitors right now so you have to drop out of the interface to see what your work really looks like. Then go back into the interface to make more changes.
Colorista is a much better plug-in and only $99.

Would you say that the MBL plug-in is better for After Effects?”No clue, we don’t grade in After Effects. We use Color and Colorista in FCP.

In my opinion Color is the best color grading too on the Mac period and probably the best of any NLE. I have been using it over 2 years now, originally as Final Touch HD.
Colorista is essentially the 3 Way CC you’re used to in FCP, but it’s much cleaner and adds a nice masking feature. Not sure if it works with 5.1.4 though.

February 9, 2008 at 7:18 pmIt works in 5.1.4 version of Final Cut Pro. As a matter of fact, since I have an older g5 with older graphics card, I can do HD in 5.1.4 but in 6 the card isn’t good enough. Just a point to add. Apple did something in the programming to check the card more efficiently in 6.
