  • Help! My Vegas 7 crashes when importing m2t’s!!!

Posted by Jason Ryan on August 14, 2008 at 6:02 am

I’ve mostly used Vegas for SD editing, and have only edited a few clips together on Vegas in HDV.

Today I captured many HDV clips for a project I’m doing. I had some problems with capture, so I made a new vegas project with the settings at 1080/60i and started importing the clips into it. I’ve been dragging and dropping from windows explorer, like I’ve always done with SD.

When I get to certain clips which it doesn’t seem to like, I get problems. First, it says an error occurred opening the media file (but not necessarily one I just tried to import). It gives me the option to specify a replacement file, and when I tell Vegas where it is(the original file), I get an error, and it says an exception has occured, and then it shuts down. If you understand error codes, I can provide that.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help,

Hard to conclude what the problem is. But don’t drag and
drop from the windows explorer…use the import button instead.
I don’t think you will have any problems there.
Let’s know if the problem persists using just your import button.

    Yes, do what Steve says.
Also, are all the clips from the same source or different sources?

I tried using the import button and importing to the project media window, but Vegas still crashes on me after getting a few in.
I did get an error that said I was low on memory, so I increased my virtual memory to what was recommended by my computer. I have 2 GB of RAM now, maybe that’s not enough.

All the footage I’m trying to import was recorded on a Canon XH-A1 and captured from it as well.

    Thanks,

Your memory is not the problem.
(2 GB)…you are not low on memory. Seems as if some of the files
    have been corrupted.
Restart your PC…Do a basic clean up then re-capture the HDV clips.
(Hope that’s not too much work)

I re-started, degfragged, and recaptured, but I’m still getting the same problem.

Could it be some kind of capture setting? The files look fine when played by themselves.

    Thanks for helping out,

    Hi,
Did you ever find a solution to this issue ? I have up to now updated to v.8.c VP-8 and I still get the same error/crash as you have experienced; hdv files when imported to Vegas.
