Help – Moving from G4 to MacPro Part 1
I have just taken the plunge and moved from a G4 to a MacPro2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (Eight Core). I expected and am experiencing some growing pains that I hope, in retrospect, will be worth while.
My first major obstacle is figuring out how to use the AJA Kona LHi card and breakout box. Step one for me was to connect my Beta deck (I know it’s a passe format but I have clients who use it and one of them has booked me for the next month or so) to the breakout box so that I can import into FCP7.
I have hooked up XLRs to the audio outputs on the back of my deck to the analog in on the breakout box. I have hooked up an RS-422 cable to the remote on the back of the deck to the RS-422 plug on the breakout box. I have hooked the video (composite) on the back of my deck to the Y/G/CVBS in on the breakout box.
I ran a test of the AJA system and it passed.
I have opened my AJA Control Panel and it does not seem to recognize the Beta deck. I try to chose the settings that seem relevant – composite, analog, etc. but I am not sure the panel is responding.
In FCP I have made the Sequence Preset – DV NTSC 48K (I am also using a lot of DV footage), the Capture Preset – AJA loHD 525 29.97 8 bit uncompressed, the Device Control Preset – AJA loHD 29.97 Sony VTR, the Video Playback – Digital Cinema Desktop Preview – Main, and the Audio Playback – Soundsticks (I know they are lame but I ran out of bucks to upgrade).
When I go to Log and Capture, I get an error message – unable to initialize video deck.
Help. I’m lost. What do I need to do to the AJA Control Panel in order for it to work? What should my settings be in FCP7? Have I hooked up the deck to the breakout box properly?
Thanks for whatever help you can offer to this poor lost soul.
