    Hi,

I have a HD project with footage that was captured on a Kona 2 system. I was happily editing away until yesterday when I suddenly got an error message that states “Codec not found.” You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.” I thought I was using the DVC Pro HD codec which should be native to FCP HD (I’m editing on a dual 2.5 G5) and I still see the codec amongst my options but I can’t see any of my footage anymore and when I try to open it in quicktime it says “You may experience problems playing a video track in “name” because the compressor cannot be found.”

I don’t know what caused this problem. I thought it was because I had upgraded to quicktime 7 but I uninstalled that and reinstalled Quicktime 6.5.2 but it didn’t fix it.

Does anyone know what is wrong or more importantly how to fix it?

    Please help!

Did you reinstall your Pro key for QT6+? QT7 may have changed the permissions for access to the advanced codecs since it was not pro enabled. Just a theory.

Where did you get the codec? Can you reinstall it from your Kona CD?

Worst case is something you could prepare for now: Start rounding up the original tapes.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I don’t have a Kona 2 card, the footage was captured onto a Kona 2 system and then copied onto my g-raid external hard drive. I really don’t want to have to re-digitize the footage and I don’t think it’s a problem with teh footage, I think its a system conflict.
