  • Help! Jumpy DVD-Compressor Settings?

I’m putting together a 20 minute DVD reel and although it looks fine in the FCP Timeline and even in the Apple DVD player after authoring (DVDSP2), it stutters a bit in an external DVD player. I tried it on a few different players.

The DVD is a simple 20 minute reel with a 30 sec Intro (first play). The Intro plays fine. The details on the 20 minute sequence:

The Source is an 8-bit uncompressed FCP Timeline. I exported this as a QT Movie (full res, self contained with chapter markers) and put the QT into compressor with the 60-min hi quality setting for m2v. (I tried the 90-min as well-same results). The Audio went into A Pack with the Data Rate of 192kbps. I’ve used these same settings before many times with great results, so I’m stumped. It all looks fine in Simulator, and again, the burned DVD will play fine in the DVD players of all my computers, but it’s jumpy on an external player.

    Any suggestions?

Are you using the same brand of media that you usually use? I’ve found that when I have a problem like the one you describe it’s usually an issue with the media that I’m burning to. Memorex, Maxel and Verbatium have worked well for me. Fuji disks have been rather hit-or-miss. They work fine in my players, but I’ve had a few clients who have had problems with them in their players.

At least that’s been my experience. Your mileage may vary.

    Hi

I just experienced the same problem .

Finished sequence on FCP, captured from DV, and edited with DV Sequence setting. Everything looked fine on timeline playback.

Then i exported sequence as a .mov file, turned out about 2.7Gb file. Popped it into Titanium Toaster and burned it as DVD.

DVD looked fine on cmpt playback, but stutters on external DVD player.

    Anyone got any suggestions?
