HELP: Iomega vs G-Raid Storage Devices
Hey guys I’d like some feedback. I was about to order a firewire hard drive to store projects on. I’m mostly an After Effects/Final Cut guy. I am debating between the 300GB Iomega Black Series Triple Interface and the 320GB G-Raid Firewire 800.
Currently I operate a shiny new Mac Quad and life is good. I do not output direct to tape though that may occur in the future. As always thanks so much.

Between those two, G-RAID would be my choice, and its the choice ton’s of video editors and graphics pro’s. G-SATA would be even better, but you’ll need to add a SATA card to go with it. https://www.g-technology.com/Products/G-SATA.cfm
If you want to save a little money, and gain some space, you could go with the OtherWorld Computing (OWC) 500GB Firewire RAID/Drives https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/RAID/ Maybe not quite as good as G-RAID, but a lot of bang for the buck. They’ve been making drives for a long time and have been a decent company to deal with.

Having said all that, right now today, I”d go with the G-tech (raid or single drive. SATA, then FireWire). However, the OWC drives are an excellent cost effective option that I wouldn’t hesitate to use for backups, etc. G-Tech is probably overkill for backups unless you’re planning on working off of it regularly.
