I am on the market for a new pc and would like to know which cpu’s are working best with vegas 8(which I do not have yet)on the requirements it says you need a 2.8 mgz or higher cpu, but I dont know if thier taking into account the new duel or quad core cpu’s from athlon and intel.

I can afford a regular 2.8 mgh cpu and maybe a duel core 2.8 , but I cannot afford higher then a 2.4 quad core. For some reason I think the quadcore 2.4 would still work better then the regular and duel core 2.8 models but I would still like some clarification before I make a purchase.

Any other specs I should look for on a new pc, like ram, hard drive rpm ect..?

You want the fastest possible CPU and as much RAM as your O/S will support. Disk speed is not a problem as it was in the early days of NLE’s – most 3.5-inch disks are 7200 RPM. Buy at least two so that you can separate the O/S from the video files.

Intel just introduced a new processor (Core-I7 Extreme) that according to Maximum PC Magazine, blows away the fastest AMD processor by anywhere from 50- to 110% performance improvement. The chip is currently $1,000, so I will wait for the first price drop in a few months before I buy one and a new MB.

This is with air cooling. Add liquid cooling and you can bump it up another 10%.

Mark, you are correct that you would be better off with a 2.4 Quad than a 2.6 Dual. Vegas will take advantage of all 4 cores while rendering and you would see a dramatic improvement (almost 50% better) with the QuadCore.

Intel Q6600 (2,4 mhz) is faster than Intel Duo E8600 (3,8 mhz) working Vegas Pro 8.

So from what I understand Vegas Video 8 is designed to take advantage of the quad core processors? Maybe I should upgrade. These 1 hour rendering times for 1 hour video is driving me crazy.

    Thanks alot guys!

Anyone using the amd quad cores, I back off them after hearing some bad reviews compared to the intel from gamers, but maybe it works well in vegas 8?
