  • HELP! FCP slowed down my entire edit

I am in big trouble. After a video render, a :29 minute show in my timeline has well been pitch and time changed. It is slower and all the audio is slower and at a lower timber. I can’t think of doing anything. Also the files in my bins play back slow as well. We I went to the Hard Drive and opened the original files it QT, they are slow too. but it is just in the folder for this particular edit. Anyway, this show is due and my backed up footage is the files that are slow. I can’t do an edit unless Speed this thing up. I am so boned,

The only way for this to happen is for you to have put the footage into an improper timeline. Such as placing a 720/59.94 timeline into a 720/23.98 timeline and allowing FCP to re-render all the footage. This could change the speed and timing of the footage depending on the original footage and how you have FCP set up to render.

FCP itself would not change the speed of footage in a single timeline just because you rendered it.

I was DC NTSC all the way. Unless I made a change by accident. I Shut down everything even the drives and am doing a reinstall of FCP studio. After the restart, the files in the folder seemed to play in real time.

I am moving everything over onto another drive and moving it over to my G4 powerbook to see if it opens. I have been editing on this for 4 days, and after my last render I got pitch/time change. Again, i can’t retrace my steps over the last hour.

OK, I moved it over to my G4 and everything is OK except there are files that are off line and I need to reconnect them. I am reloading FCP on the G5 and hopefully the problem will be solved.

Didn’t have a previously saved project from your Autosave vault?

Yes, I did, but I panicked and moved everything over to my G4. I then reinstalled FCP,that probably cleared the auto save. The edit is going fine. I have moved the drive back to the G5 and opened up the session in FCP and I am still having the slow tempo problems. This just has me buffaloed. There is no way this can work on the G4 and not the G5.

Anyway, i am about to pull my hair out. I will have to finishe the edit on the G4 and start another session on the G5 to see if things repeat themselves. I have never had to do this, but can you time compress a session or does it have to be exports to a .mov file?
