  • Help! External Hard drive/Camera Deck issues

I already posted this once, and got no response…
    any answers?
    Thanks 🙂

    This is bizarre. . .

The problem seems to stem from a combination of at least two things

My capture device – Panasonic GS300 – via Firewire 600

    &

My external hard drives – 1 TB Lacie Bigger Disk – USB 2.0 (I know, stupid, more on this later)
1 TB Lacie Big Disk – Firewire 800
300 GB Lacie Hard Drive – Firewire 600

a week ago there were no issues
then – I reformatted my drives to OS Extended (Journaling off). . .

now – when I have my camera plugged in as I start up, only the 300 GB drive appears (all of my final cut projects and media are on the other external drives)

If I unplug the camera – then the two 1 TB drives apper, final cut opens. . .but when I plug the cam back in, Final cut ceases working and the wheel appeard – until I unplug the camera again. . .

Also, I would like to use the 1 TB Bigger disk with Firewire but for some reason, the computer (Dual 2.7 GHz G5, 2.5GB Ram, Final cut 6.0.3) will recognize the drive when plugged in, but final cut struggles to.
    any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    -Sean

OK, so I am going to reach here. I am going to assume a couple of things:

    1) You are using the same firewire chain for the drives and the camera or

    2) You are using a MPB or some other card where say the 800 port and the 400 port are on the same bus.

Although I have never had this particular problem, I understand that a camera and a hard drive do not like to share the same bus. Now for personal use I have a M410 audio interface and my camera looped together and have never had any capture problems. My drives are on a dual channel Slot34 eSATA card.

    Hope this helps.
