    Hello everyone,

Quick intro. For the past 4 days I’ve been learning how to use adobe premiere pro 2.0 (from scratch) on a short film we did. My editor has been too busy, his computer broke, and I’m on a TIGHT deadline. I bought everything I need. It took me 36 hours to conform all the files!

That being said, I more or less got my way around (many thanks to the people in this board!!). However, I have a few questions that might seem very basic:

#1 – I decided to burn the current project to DVD, 16:9 the highest quality I think 7 mb compared to 4 mb, and it’s been encoding the files for the past one hour and a half, it’s at 40% encoding. Is it supposed to take that long? It’s a 27 minute movie project. I’m using an external sony dvd burner, usb 2.0, it’s a pretty new one so I don’t think it’s a problem with the actual burner. Is there another option where I can burn faster? Once it’s encoded and I burn another copy in the future, will it have to encode all over again?

#2 – Timelines: I have two timelines in my project, how can I delete one of them? How can I add another one? And how can I change the name of one of them?

#3 – I’d like to export certain clips or “sequences” i believe it’s called from the timeline. How can I do that? When I try, even if I highlight them, it begins to encode the entire project so I cancel!

#4 – Timeline: In the video section, I notice some clips have a “purple” line, what does that represent??

#5 – Timeline Audio: How can I mute the audio for the clips? I know there is a way with the “yellow” line but I don’t know how so I’m unlinking them from the video and simply deleting it.

#6 – Quicktime: I tried to export the film as quicktime and get a “error compiling movie” message. I read somewhere where it had issues with 7.2 or so anything 7, so i uninstalled that, installed 6.5 and now im waiting to try again after the dvd burns. Will the downgrade of the software fix that problem or does anyone know if it’s because of something else?

    MANY thanks in advance!

    Vin.

    1. [Vin2000] “Once it’s encoded and I burn another copy in the future, will it have to encode all over again?”
Yes. In the future choose the “Burn to:Folder” option. Then use your burning app to “Record Video_TS”, navigate to the Video_TS folder Premiere has created.

    2. Timelines are called Sequences. Each lives in the Project bin as well as tabbed on the timeline. Delete the sequence in the Project bin or rename it there.

    3. You can only export one sequence at a time, either the entire sequence or part of it as isolated with the Work Area Bar. The choice is made in the Media Encoder under “Range”.

    4. Maybe the line above some video is Red? Red indicates that a real preview might not be possible due to effects added. You can play that red area but might not get all the frames displayed (jerky). You can render that red area (changes to green) by positioning the Work Area Bar over that area and clicking Enter key.

    5. You can Alt+left click on an audio file in the timeline to select just the audio, than right click on it and choose Enable to disable the audio.

    6. I have heard that, but more important, there are few valid reasons to Export QT from Premiere…quality is the issue. The only half decent quality from QT is H264 and for that requires QT 7.
