  • Help! export P2 with CS3 version 3.2

Posted by Manuel Rios on October 18, 2008 at 6:01 pm

    Hello, i need help!
The thing is i have the premier pro cs3 version 3.2, i rolled a film with a panasonic pro camera, im making the project in adove DVCPRO HD 1080 50i. I import the files the MXF files, and i can edit it.

The problem is that i cant export it, for some reason when i hit export i dont see the option export to P2, i just downloaded the P2 driver, and the p2 viewer.

All the information is in a hard drive not in p2 cards, we had to record the film in hard drive. So I need to know how do i get the option to export to P2, is there some procedule i have to follow, or do i have to set up something up first, or what?? im quite desperate already, been trying to find a solucion for 3 days already…

    Why?
P2 is just an acquisition format like HDV, XDCam and others, all variants of 2 temporal codecs (H264 and Mpeg 2).
HDV is recorded to DV tape and one could back up back to DV tape if one wanted, but I cant see the value in exporting back to hard drive or media cards using an acquisition format rather than a target format like H264 or Mpeg 2 for BD or Windows Media for web or local playback.

Now if this discussion is about cross platform editing, I am out.

Hello, well because i want to lose the least as possible, this is the first edition of the movie, then it has to go to color correction, and if i keep the movie in its raw format, the loss will not be detected.

Its just a mather on what do you have to do to export in to P2 files, into a hard drive?

    Manuel,

You can export to the same codec (“raw format”) without having to wrap the files for P2. In other words, simply export the whole show to an avi or quicktime using the same codec you’ve been working in. Probably DVCPro HD.

    Thanks Dave

The problem is that im editing on a PC, and for what i know and ive tried… but i cant export with dvcprohd codec. I simply dont have it on the list for exports, neather for quicktime or avi. In the macs, i know you can do it but i think this particular codec is not out there for pc’s or maybe my graphic card is not good enough to export with that codec.. i dont know.
Thats why im trying to export in P2 so i do the raw edit, and the rest can be done in better computers, (saving budget)

    Manuel,

I just want to confirm that you don’t see the option to export to P2. So, if you select a sequence in the Timeline panel or Project panel and then choose File > Export there is no option called Export to P2?

I believe there is a 4GB limit on file size so perhaps that’s a factor.

My system can export to DVCProHD but that might be because I have an Axio card (and codecs) or maybe because I also purchased the Raylight codec from DVFilm. Maybe Raylight is what you need to get the job done.

    Dave,

Thank, but yes i dont see the option to export to P2, not even in light gray, even if i try only with 1 clip with 150MB.

About the other codecs i tryied the raylight codec, but i dont think it gives me real HD i can see the pixels… so its not the option

    HI
I got exactly the same problem while working on my friend’s Premiere CS3 3.2.0

I couldn’t find the export P2 option I normally get on my Premiere CS3 installed in my own computer .
I checked his version of Premiere CS3, it was up to date…

Actually, we finally discovered that he got a limited version of Premiere, it seems that Adobe distribute a cheaper version for student which is nearly the same, but missing some feature such as export to P2.

Great advantage of exporting to p2 = no loss in term of quality, quickly done, small size (10 times smaller) compare to “no compression avi” file, easy to reimport in any other DVCpro HD project on PC or Mac, no waste of time in rendering (except for sound and transition or special effect). I barely do color correction as I take care of my shot (white balance and proper average lighting) and I like the natural rendering of my Panasonic

My advise is to double check the Premiere CS3 version you get, and if you often work with P2 as I do, you should upgrade for the complete version.

I can handle Final Cut pro on my Mac (which is more present in professional postproduction studio), but Premiere CS3 is smooth as silk with P2 format. I do it on a 1 year old notebook (not top of the line CPU), using 5400 rpm external 2.5″ USB disk, and it works faster than editing DV, without added plug in.
