  • Help! Export from timeline to Compressor locks FCP

Posted by Anthony Popolo on August 25, 2009 at 3:16 pm

I’m trying to export a sequence in the timeline (FCP6) out to compressor (3.0.5) and when I try to submit the batch (single clip), FCP does not respond. I have to force quit FCP. It was working previously (only a few times, this is a recent upgrade)
    Any ideas?

First, your G5 hates you for asking of it so much.

    Have you updated FCP?
The latest version (not brand new 7) runs smoothly with Compressor.

Assuming you’ve shut everything down and re-started, the next thing to do is trash your preference files for both FCP and Compressor. Those can often get buggy. They are located in your Library in the Home folder and end in ‘p.list’.

Thanks Karl, seems to be okay now. I did restart and trash preferences. I’m running FCP 6.0.5.
BTW, I’ve been using Macs and FCP for 9 years now and I have a very newbie question that I’m almost ashamed to ask…
What exactly does the trashing of preferences do? What creates those files? and why?
(next time I might even ask about “fixing permissions”!)
    Thanks!
    Anthony
