I’m getting this error when playing back in Avid Media Composer 3.0:

    Exception: Disk_IO_error, filename…

It happens only with certain MXF files. The other thing is that I can’t copy those files off the harddrive.

    Any help is great! Thanks.

In my experience, this is 2 things.

    1. A failing disk.

    2. Improper permissions on the disk.

Is this Mac or PC? Firewire, USB or SCSI.

yeah that’s what I thought–but permissions are all read & write and nothing is locked. I thought that the drive was used on another computer and was only accessible by that user, but the drive has never left this computer.

i’m coming in on this project for the video effects editing, so I don’t know the entire history of what went on with the setup, etc. it’s a macbook pro, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz. the harddrive is a western digital external–not sure the specs on that.

I’ve also checked to see if the drive is failing, but i don’t think that’s the case. maybe the drive is running too slow, but this error only happens with the same files–so i wonder why everything else on the drive is accessible.

we’re going to recapture the footage this weekend but i would like to avoid that if possible because their file management/naming convention is a mess. besides, re-digitizing the footage doesn’t solve the problem, which means it could happen again.

thanks for the help, i really appreciate it!
