  • Help! Did I bust the camera? If so, what consumer MiniDV can I use to capture?

I think I busted my DVX100A by using it to capture/digitize. Now, when I try to play a tape in VCR mode, I only get blue screen. It also ate a tape. When I try to play via Adobe Premiere Pro, I just see a still image with a bunch of lines.

    1. Did I bust it? If so, where’s the best+cheapest place to fix it in the Los Angeles area?

    2. (MORE IMPORTANT AND IMMEDIATE) I’m on a tight deadline. I’m assuming I can use any consumer MiniDV cam to capture/digitize without loss of quality. Yes? If so, what’s the best for $200-400 right now.

    Thanks for your help.

Sounds like dirty heads. Run a head cleaner. If it’s still blue, take it to be cleaned costs about $100. You can use most other DV cameras and decks to digitize. But be ready- if your heads were dirty when recording you might have tapes with problems.

[Elizabeth Jarosz] “where’s the best+cheapest place to fix it”

You”ll have to decide between “Best” and “Cheapest”. It won’t be the same place.
