  • HELP! Creating a DVD without Interlacing problems?

Posted by Austin Ray on January 1, 2007 at 1:42 pm

I’ve tried for days now to create a DVD of my Avid timeline. My problem is that no matter what I do – when I come to the final step where I’m checking the DVD on a DVD-player/Television – it’s always some kind of interlacing problem. I don’t know what to do to get it right.

I’m running Avid Xpress 5.0 Pro HD on WindowsXP-SP2. I’ve captured DVCAM-material into DV25 420 OMF within the same Avid Software.

When I tried to create a DVD, this is what I did:

    1. Exported my timeline as QuickTime Reference (Avid Codec – native dimensions).

    2. Converted to MPEG-2 (Lower-Field/16:9/VBR:7800k)with Sorensen Squeeze.

    3. Authored a DVD-master (with no menus) with TMPGEnc and Burned on DVD-R.

I’ve also tried to export from Avid as “Avid Meridien Uncompressed,” but with no further luck. When I did this i choose Lower Field.

—My problem is obviously that I do not at all know where to choose the different setting. In which process do I choose which Field Rendering Setting?

-When I capture my media from DVCAM – do Avid capture in Lower Field?
-What is it that the DVD-player want? Lower?
-Do I have the right Software?

I’m getting kinda desperate as my deadline for delivering this MASTER is closing in.

I’m appreciate every kind of help and advices. Thanks in advance!

    Austin,

You selected lower field in Sorensen but did you turn off deinterlacing?

Import the QT Ref into Sorensen. Set your MPEG 2 parameters as needed for this project, including lower field. Create a new filter (the plus button under filters). Call it “Remove Deinterlace” or whatever you want to call it. Uncheck the Deinterlace button in the filter that is checked. Apply this new filter to your job and then render as usual.

When you bring your footage into TMPGEnc or Avid DVD or whatever, it should be fine.

    Regards,
