  HELP!! Crazy freezing XPro 4.6 MAC – Won’t stop!!!!!!!

  OK,

  Sorry for the drama, but here’s the deal. I’ve had my XPress Pro for a year and starting last summer, I began having problems, where it basically got hung up and the beach ball came and stayed for dinner. First, it was during a big batch dig, then when I tried to export a QT movie, then when I tried to scrub within the timeline.

  I’ve been on the phone with Apple since August and nothing’s resolved. They’ve replaced the guts of my machine, I’ve replaced the RAM four times, etc. SO, I thought I’d ask and see if some of the brilliant minds that frequent this forum might be able to help me.

  SPECS: Avid Xpress Pro 4.6 on Dual 1.25 G4 MDD, 1.25GB RAM, OS 10.3.5, Internal DESKSTAR 120GB Media drive (not striped; I know, but I’ve used it for video for two years without significant problems…)

  QUESTIONS:
  1. Update 4.6.5 is no longer available from avid.com, so I’m stuck with 4.6 – is that OK? I’d rather not go to 4.8, since it requires me to upgrade to Tiger, but if all agree that 4.8 is WAY stabler, than I’ll do it. IF not, how/where could I get 4.6.5?
  2. Mostly, what I get is the beach ball. None of my media is on the system or application drive, energy saver is disabled, confidence view is OFF. What else might this be??????? ANY ideas are welcomed.
