HELP! Clip names renamed, disconnected from media files etc
I have taken on the uneviable task of doing a 60 minute cut of a documentary that was originally edited to feature length by the director. But he has made a total mess of the project and I am at a loss as to how to get the project back into a reasonable workable state.
All the media files are there on the drive, and the master sequence is referencing all those files (ie none of them are appearing as ‘offline”). The problem is that when I try and reveal the clip from the timeline in the browser, the clip is not actually in the browser. So its reading the media file off the hard drive, but the clips are not actually in the browser.
I am trying to get around this by selecting all the clips in the timeline, and choosing Media Manager to “Create Offline’ clips in the Browser and then reconnecting them. But ofcourse the next problem is that the director has re-named clips in the browser at some stage with different clip names from the original media files. I am able to find the original files on the drive and reconnect them, but should I be re-naming the clips to their original names to match the media files? When Ive tried to do this its fine, except that it doesnt re-name the same clips in the timeline.AAAARRGHH!! Can anyone help me to find a way of undoing this mess that the director has created and getting the project workable again?
Thanks in advance.
