    Hey everyone,
I’m trying to capture my old VHS tapes using my Canon ZR10 Mini DV camera as an analog to digital converter (video pass through). I have the composite outs from the VCR going to the analog in of the camera, and a firewire cable going from the camera into the computer. The camera is set in VCR mode and my log and capture settings are set to non controllable device but I’m still getting a message saying there is no incoming video. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this isn’t working correctly?

    Thanks.

PS – I can’t record the VHS to mini dv tapes first because the camera keeps eating my tapes.

    Tiger 10.4.11 / FCP 6.0.2

    More information:
I’ve just read that a mini dv tape in the camera may be necessary to perform this function. If anyone has any insight please let me know. Thanks.

You didn’t mention which version of what software you are capturing with, so I can’t tell you if your camera is compatible. Try yourself:

I’m trying to capture with FCP 6.0.2, which I did include in my original post (at the bottom). I checked out the link you posted and it looks like my camera, the Canon ZR10, is supported by Final Cut Studio 2.0.X. So I’m still not sure why it isn’t working. Other then not having a tape in the camera, which I have yet to try. Thanks.
