  • HELP! Can’t Reconnect a File

    Hello,

One of my .mov files went missing so I of course used the reconnect media option. I used both the locate and search option multiple times (image #1) and it always finds the missing clip, good right?

The problem is once I select the missing clip and hit ok, it goes back to the image #2 screen and won’t let me continue with the “connect” option. It just grays out. Forcing me to “cancel” and not have my clip connected.

I have tried deleting preferences, I’m using FCP 7, any help would be really appreciated!!! Thanks.

This has happened to me a couple of times. Sometimes I’ve had to reconnect from different portions of the interface. If you’re trying to connect from the timeline and it’s giving you trouble, try reconnecting from (if you’ve imported it into a bin or other area) the source clip. If that doesn’t work, try reimporting the media clip as a whole. If FCP accepts it and it doesn’t reconnect to the timeline on import, take the newly imported clip offline and then reconnect it to the new clip reference in FCP. Worse case scenario of nothing reconnecting, reimport the clip and match the edits already made in the timeline. Tedious, but I’ve had to do it a couple of times.

Maybe someone has a better idea, but the above has worked for me. Good luck!

Hey thanks for the reply. It’s greatly appreciated.

What ended up working for me was to just copy the source media to a new folder and then when I go to reconnect to that new file, I just hit “return/enter” even though it was grayed out. Somehow it worked. Weird.

I have tried every permutation. The original file is grey. I have imported it several times, and the sub clips will not connect.
