Help! Can’t edit SD and HD footage together.
We shot a documentary with two different cameras. One camera was a Panasonic HVX200 shooting at 720pn at 24fps, 16×9 squeeze. We shot mostly on P2 Cards, but had to resort to MiniDV when we ran out of space.
We also shot with a Panasonic DVX100B camera at 30i, 16×9 squeeze. We meant to shoot this camera at 24p as well, but our cameraman forgot and had it set on 30i for the entire shoot.
In Final Cut Pro I can digitize the DVX100B footage with sequence settings of NTSC DV (3:2), anamorphic 16×9, pixel aspect ratio of NTSC – CCIR 601 DV (720×480), field dom: lower (even), editing timebase: 29.97, Quicktime Video Settings: DV/DVCPRO – NTSC, quality 100%, audio – rate 48 kHz, depth 16-bit, config default.
With these settings the digitized DVX100B footage will go into the timeline without any rendering required.
For the HD footage the sequence settings are:
960×720 HD (960×720) (16×9), Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960×720), field dominance: Can’t change, editing timebase: 23.98, compressor: DVCPRO HD 720p60, quality 100%, audio – rate 48 kHz, depth 16-bit, config default. With these settings the HVX200 footage will go into the timeline without needing any rendering.
I would like to be able to edit all of the footage together in one timeline without having to render any of it as soon as I drop it into the timeline. I don’t mind dropping the HD footage down to SD, but I want to stick with 16×9. I tried converting the HD footage using Quicktime Pro, but it left a small amount of black on the left and right sides of the clips.
Can anyone tell me what I should do?
Thanks,
Shaun Kendall
