Help: AVI Black Bars and WMV Rendering
Hi guys,
I’m using Vegas Platinum 8. When I pulled the video off my camcorder it created a .avi file. If I open that video in windows media player 11, the video looks sharp and crisp. The only oddity is the video starts off with black borders all the way around video. If I double click on the video it will expand to completely fill the movie player. All the other videos I have simply open full screen and don’t require a double click. The format of the .avi file is “dvsd”. This is a standard def 720×480 .avi clip.
Question 1: Why is this? Does it have something to do with the way I took the video off the tape?
I discovered that if I open the .avi file in Vegas, and then Render as a .wmv file, when I view the resulting file in WMP11, the .wmv file opens without the black border exactly the way I expect. The trouble is the quality of the video is significantly less.
Question 2: How can get Vegas to render this .avi file in .wmv format with simliar quality? The WMV file is noticeably blurrier than the .avi file. Alos, the .avi file just seems “snappier” when it plays. I’ve played around the different WMV templates…jacked the quality settings all the way up…no dice.
So I’m a little stuck. I can keep the awesome .avi file with the nusiance of the black border, or I convert to .wmv and fix the border issues, but degrade my video experience. Any thoughts?
